Finally! A warm day, almost hot. The end of March has finally arrived and last week our temperatures were still dipping down into the mid-40s, it looks as if we will finally warm up. It's been two months to the day since I sprained my ankle. It is not "sore" but I can still feel where the sprain was and pressure when I walk or jog, but I do feel as if I can be outside and walking again and doing some running.
Today I took my camera, my dogs, and myself out for a walk. These photos were all shot with the 85 mm lens, which takes beautiful photographs. But, I love a wide angle telephoto lens and can't get the landscapes I want with this lens. So tomorrow I will venture out with the 18-135.
I got home from this walk in a much better mood since I did manage to go four miles for the first time in months. The oilfield workers have been on my road since December. I'm ready for it to end, the endless traffic, the pipelines, the drilling, the rigs and now they are fracking.
It is no longer a peaceful road, it's annoying. I'm tired of them and want them to leave. I realize with the drilling activity that end is not in sight yet as there are more wells planned to be drilled.
Halliburton is fracking the well west of my Parents' house now. I normally photograph this field in the spring. Fortunately these sites don't take up that much land and blend into the landscape as all oilffield work does in Oklahoma.
My husband used to haul thes piece of equipment (that you see sitting vertically) when he worked for a company that contracted for Halliburton a couple of years ago.
My Sister's husband actually worked with this fracking crew until last Fall.
The fracking and oil industry doesn't upset me. It's a necessary evil. I despise the giant eyesore windfarms. But, my concern with the industry is the water use. We are already nearing drought conditions in Oklahoma and with continued drilling they are using one of our most precious resources - our ground and fresh water.
The dogs really could care less about signs telling them where not to go. They don't care that there are explosives. They were interested in the table set up outside which appeared to have some "to go" food boxes. Not sure if Lassie ate some poor roughneck's dinner or not.
I walked two miles then returned home to our land and walked back to the back forty acres. It was almost too hot to be out walking today. But it was perfect because I like hot weather especially after our cold, dreary, frigid winter.
More blossoms - for the first time this year I could smell the sweet scent of spring in the air. I love the subtle scents of the changing seasons. Soon it will smell green and alive.
The grass is slowly peeking out with it's green beneath the dead vegetation. I'm so glad it's Spring in Oklahoma now.
