Wide open spaces in Western Kansas.. dotted by the towering grain elevators. This is what you find when you travel along Highway 283 in Hodgeman County. As we approached the town of Jetmore I stopped for a few shots.
Driving down the empty highway with barely a soul in any direction for miles at a time you see the grain elevators as beacons drawing you into the small town that looks like the neighboring town and the one after that, yet they all appear the same there is always something that makes them unique; whether it be the street lights or the architecture of their old bank building.
These are the high plains of western Kansas, if you follow them west you will end up in the Rocky Mountains and escape from the monotony of their endless emptiness. Yet, they aren't empty, they have captured the imagination of America and filled our culture with stories of pioneers, settlers, Indians, homesteaders and those people who were survivors on a vast landscape.
