So, I arrived at Taloga too early today. I decided to drive north of town and found snow! Brrrr.... It was nearly 80 degrees on Monday and last night the north wind arrived and it was cold, windy and in the low 40s, but last week's snow storm hit western Oklahoma hard. I didn't know I'd be visiting that snowstorm in which we only got rain.
It is March. I'm over snow now. Let's wait until next winter.
The landscape around the town moves from wide open spaces to rough desert scrub type of country.
Taloga is in the Canadian River Valley
So what does Shirk's Oklahoma Place Names have to say about Taloga: County seat of Dewey County. Post office established March 22, 1892. Although there are several versions of the origin of the name, it is probably from the Creek word meaning "rock in the water" and has reference to the original boundary of the Creek Nation" (232).
Taloga is the county seat. Taloga is also where my Husband's late father is from.
Hello Taloga! Goodbye Taloga! My exposures were slightly off in these photos due to my camera settings.
