I stopped at the border between Texas and Oklahoma on Highway 62 on my way to New Mexico this August. Yes, I'm still working on summer photos. I will catch up eventually, have patience. Until then you can enjoy my summer.
The view near Hollis Oklahoma. August 2009.
100th Meridian Historical marker, the border between the Republic of Texas and Louisiana. At one time Oklahoma was part of many states. We were Louisiana, Missouri, Arkansas and even under the jurisdiction of Nebraska Territory laws.
Welcome to Oklahoma on Highway 62 West of Hollis
Overgrown cemetery outside of Hollis. I hate seeing cemeteries that aren't taken care of, it is sad. It feels like everyone has been forgotten who rest there.
A child's grave is a reminder of what a difficult life the early settlers of Oklahoma had. So many children didn't reach adulthood a mere hundred years ago.
This lady was born in 1838, and died in 1901. Just think about what she experienced in her life. Oklahoma was not a state when she passed away. She was a pioneer. She lived through the Civil War and reconstruction, Spanish American war. When I think about history of the 20th century I always think how my Grandmother was born in 1896, and was five years old in 1901.
